Personalizing the Online Classroom Through Creative Teaching and Learning

Session Description
Personalizing the Online Classroom Through Creative Teaching and Learning is a presentation that highlights the pillar of leadership and organization by focusing on the changes in teaching technologies. The outcomes of this presentation is centering on promoting active learning, matching student and faculty expectations, and defining the change landscape of our students. Strategies will be discussed on faculty challenges as well as student’s challenges in the online forum.

Candy Mowen, Purdue University Global, Greencastle, USA
Candy Mowen started as an adjunct faculty member at the Hagerstown Campus of Kaplan University in March of 2009. In 2015, she became a full-time faculty member in the Mathematics Department of General Education. She teaches Survey of Mathematics, College Algebra, and Business Mathematics and Statistical Measures. In June 2018, Candy became a full-time faculty member for Purdue University Global where she is the course lead for MM255 – Business Mathematics and Statistical Measures. Candy has also served as a presenter at the General Education Conference, PG Village of Purdue University Global, and PADE 2019. Most recently, Candy went on to receive the distinction of CFD (Certified Faculty Developer) from the Learning Resources Network which enables her to train faculty in the latest, most advanced faculty development strategies and techniques. She has most recently been a part of the training team for the new LMS of YouSeeU (Bongo) seminar platform for faculty. She won the Educator-of-the-Year award at the Maryland Campus in 2013 and piloted the first Hagerstown/Rockville COBL course in November of 2011. Candy assisted with training COBL instruction to other colleagues at the Hagerstown/Rockville campuses. She has served on the Faculty Curriculum Committee and is currently on the Center of Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee.
